In 1995, the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) was created, the Public Utilities Board and the Energy Resources and Conservation Board (previously the Petroleum and Natural Gas Conservation Board) merged to create the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) in order to provide a more streamlined and efficient regulatory process. On January 1, 2008, the Alberta Utilities Commission Act split the (EUB) into two new regulatory bodies, the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). The ERCB is responsible for the development of Alberta’s oil and gas resources and the AUC is responsible for the distribution and sale of electricity and natural gas to Alberta consumers.
